They say if you want to know more about a person or an entity, it usually helps to know where they come from. Or, in other words, what has made them what they are today!

This couldn’t be truer than in Google’s case. In order to understand the Google eco-system it is imperative to understand the origins of the company and its founders. Without that the story of how a 41-year-old migrant from India (Sundar Pichai) became the CEO of one of the most valued and respected organizations in the world boxes its context. It will help us to understand why Google, born in 1998, was able to sweep past the legendary Microsoft. (It is noteworthy that when the co-founders of Google were still studying at Stanford and the current CEO of Google had not even landed in the US to pursue higher education, Microsoft was already a giant in the field.) Going back to the origin of Google will also enable a better understanding of the current culture there and why the powers-that-be at Mountain View continue to hold such store by innovation.

In short, if we want to predict the future of Google and the role its new CEO Sundar Pichai will play in it, we would first need to delve into the past and seek out the origins of this great firm, and that of its founders.
